Potty Talk

Hannah has been so interested in going potty lately. She usually tells me when she has gone "poo poos" and she always wants to come into the bathroom when either one of us (Scott or I) is going (and she usually says, "pee pees" when she wants to come in). Last week I met a mother at the park whose daughter is already potty trained and isn't even two yet. I asked her how she did it and she told me that they bought their daughter a little potty and kept it in the bathroom. They didn't push their daughter into using it, but she quickly became interested on her own and was potty trained two months later. I decided that I wanted to try this tactic as well. Yesterday I bought Hannah a potty and put it in the bathroom. She played with it like a toy for awhile. Today I told her that that was where she could go "pee pee" or "poo poos" if she wanted to. This afternoon she kept saying "pee pee," so I put her on her toilet to see if she would go. She sat there for a few minutes and then......she went!!! I was really surprised and happy!! I kept telling her "Good Job...You went pee pee!" My happiness ended quickly when I realized that I am the one who will be cleaning out her potty after she goes....yuck! Anyway, I'm sure it was just a fluke for now, but it was still fun. I'm not going to push it on her because I know that she is young, but I would love it if she was potty trained by two. I know the average age is around 3 years, and I will be okay with that too, but to be able to save money on diapers and stop changing stinky poop would be a delight!!

That is amazing. I don't think it was a fluke. I'm not saying that she is totally in control of her bladder, but I think that she did intentionally go pee. All of my girls were potty trained by two years and four months old. So, she may be earlier than three. Just don't get frustrated if it doesn't happen. It sure is nice when they are potty trained. But then you have to constantly find bathrooms when you are out with them. :)

Ummm...what?!? That's not fair that your 17 month old is interested in potty training and my 34 month old is not! Hannah may be potty trained before Allie. Good luck with it! We're going to really push potty training with Allie in a few weeks.

Wow...she is seriously one smart cookie. I agree with your mom...I don't think that it was a fluke. She probably isn't going to do that EVERYTIME but the fact that she knew what to do when she got on the toilet is awesome! I may steal your idea one day, only I don't think she is as aware of "potty talk" as Hannah. My bro David has taught her to say "pee pee" but I don't think she knows what it is. But yeah, I agree...saving money on diapers and not having to change poopy diapers would be an AWESOME change! Great job Maran! & Hannah!

Hey- I have a great idea... You and Cori move back to EG and we will do EVERYTHING together!! It would be lots of fun for the 4 of us mormon girls, that pretty much grew up together be back together. What do ya think? Trent's at Sac State, he gave up U of U and BYU to come over this way. You should do it(It's kinda nice saving rent)! Although I dont have children yet and I get sad about that but can't do much about it. When are you coming to visit next?

Wow! That would be so amazing if she was potty trained before two! I've never used a little potty just because of the grossness factor, but she would be too little to sit on the big toilet. (I may have to use a little one for Ella though). Like mom said too, I just got back from a road trip to San Diego, and I wished that all my kids could wear diapers so that we didn't have to take as many potty breaks. Hailey has to use the bathroom in EVERY store we go in! It does beat paying for and cleaning up diapers though.

I'm sure with such interest it's not just a fluke that she went. It might not be smooth sailing from here, but as smart ans she is, I'm sure she'll catch on quickly! Great job and good luck on the potty adventure!

What a smartie pants! Sisi went through a stage like that and went potty on the toilet a few times. She gradually lost the excitement though because I didn't want to push it too early for my sake. She is potty trained now and like others have said, it's sometimes easier to just let them go in their diaper. I have to take potty breaks in almost every store (which aren't the cleanest sometimes). And you have to constantly worry if she'll have an accident while you are out. I'm doing a lot more laundry and carpet spot cleaning than usual lately. However, I guess every child no matter how old goes through those early learning stages. It's probably better now than later when they are much more stubborn.
