Girls Night Out!

Yesterday I did something that I haven't done in a long time. I had a girls night out without Hannah or Scott and I really can't remember the last time I did that (besides maybe going shopping with my sisters once or twice in the past year). Scott and I have couples that we hang out with every once in awhile but it was really nice to get out by myself (not that I don't love being with my husband and daughter). I went out with two girls from our married ward to see Fools Gold. It's especially been hard to keep in touch with people from our married ward since Scott and I have been going to the Singles Ward, so this was a nice treat. The movie, however, was not really something I would recommend unless you don't care about seeing women's breasts. I was really surprised that they were aloud to show that in a PG-13 movie. The only other time I have seen full on breasts like that was in Titanic. It seems like the ratings on movies don't mean anything anymore. The main reason it makes me mad is because when my kids are older, I'm definitely going to have to screen everything they watch.....you just can never be sure that a movie is going to be rated appropriately for children (plus the fact that I don't really like seeing another women's breasts is another reason it made me mad). I can tell you this much, I definitely wouldn't want my 13 year old boy watching that. Anyway, so that's my little speech about movies these days. Pretty soon Scott and I are just going to have to watch G rated movies (although I must admit that there are some really good PG-13s out there and even some R rated ones like The Matrix that don't deserve to be rated what they are).

P.S. I hope that this doesn't offend anyone...that wasn't my intention....but I personally think that nudity ruins movies.

Oh Maran that sounds like so much fun! If you went with Wendy - she called me but we were driving back from Las Vegas or else I would've loved to have gone with you guys! Maybe another time!!!

Too bad about the movie - I hate it when they ruin a perfectly good movie with dumb, pointless, irrelevant stuff!!!

It's been a while since I've had a girl's night out-- sounds like fun! Thanks for the warning on the movie-- we are going to see something this weekend. I will make sure it's not that! Ratings don't mean much these days.

We love cheesecake, and I can believe that Scott used to not like cheesecake, because Craig hates chocolate, and who hates chocolate?

That is kind of why I don't go to movies anymore. We wait until someone else watches it and then buy the video if it is clean. I remember being shocked at Titanic. I was really disappointed because otherwise it was a decent movie. We have free passes to go and we are thinking about National Treasure two if it is still out. Has anyone seen it? Is is OK?
Anyway, glad you got to have an escape for a little while. It feels good every now and then to do something different!

That's great that you were able to go out with the girls. I think it's so important that we mothers get a little break every once in awhile. Thanks for the heads up about the movie. I, too, hate it when they throw in something so irrelevant and unnecessary just for the heck of it.

Hey Maran I thought your post was ironic because the same thing just happened to me! I went out on one of my first "real" girls night out since having Ana with some girls that visit teach me. We went to a PG-13 movie and although it didn't show full-frontal nudity, it definitely had a lot of things in it that I wish I didn't see or hear. FYI sometimes looking up movie reviews online can be helpful! I didn't know my visiting teachers were taking me to this movie so I didn't get a chance to look it up!
