My New Toy!

So I told Scott that I desperately wanted a keyboard/piano for Christmas, and he surprised me with one last week. I have really been wanting to play the piano again, and I am so happy that I will get the chance. I quit piano lessons when I was 11 or 12 and have regret it for some time now. After Scott surprised me, we had to move a lot of furniture around in our apartment in order to fit this in the corner. Every wall has something on it in every room. It is cluttered in here, so you grandmas coming to visit this week will have to give me some advice on how to arrange our furniture. So, after an hour or two of arranging furniture and setting up the keyboard, I dug my old piano books out of the storage room. To my surprise, getting back into piano has not been as hard as I thought it would be. After practicing a little, I learned that I can still play a few songs from my last piano book. This gave me a lot of confidence, so I told Scott that I would have Fur Elise ( a song by Beethoven that I know you would all recognize) down by the end of this week. After practicing it over and over, I realized that I'm not that good yet and will probably not have this song down for awhile (and I realized that the songs I have down from my piano book are pretty easy). I can not just read music if a piece is placed in front of me, but probably could play almost anything if I practice it long enough. Anyway, I'm excited to have a hobby again, even if it's hard to get practicing time in.

Here's a Hannah update as well:

She has recently gone down to taking just one half hour nap a day. The good thing about this is that she is sleeping almost two hours longer at night. She has been going to bed around 7pm and waking up between 8am and 9am. I can definitely handle sleeping in a little bit more. I hope it stays this way. If not, I would be extremely happy if her nap were a little longer and her night sleep were shorter. This Friday we are having her birthday party. We only invited a few friends and family members, but it should be fun! Stay tuned for some cute birthday pictures.

Maran,
Jen has a piano and what do you think the first thing I played on it was? Fur Elise. Not very well at all but hey its been about 25 years since I last played and I only had 6 months of piano lessons. I love it too. Hope you find the time to practice. I want to hear it when I come up in two days! LOVE YA MOM

This has to be one of the funniest moments in my blogging experience. Last year when the Cannons and Cowleys were moving out of the ward, Piper and I would complain that we wouldn't have friends anymore. Jed would always tell me that we should replace him and Kate to be friends with the Spragues. So then the joke became how we were trying to become close with the Spragues. Even as we were dropping off the directory Piper asked me if I was nervous about visiting Scott. Sorry if the post came off bad. It was all in humor and based on an inside joke that I thought Jed had shared with you. Bonus points if you can figure out who's last name I was referring to on the post. Any guesses?

Yea Maran, that's awesome! The piano is a nice getaway for me too! I'm proud of you for taking on a new task! I need to be more like that! :) Hannah is gorgeous...I can't believe she'll be one in a week! Well, I guess I can, since mine will be one in a month! Isn't that insane?
Well, happy practicing! You'll be great at it...before you know it, you'll get a calling to play the piano in primary or relief society! :) haha
Love ya,
Stacy

I sure wish I had some piano talent. I took beginning piano at Ricks for a semester and helped Taylor practice for three months when he was six. Do you think I could read even a lick of any piano notes now? Nope. I think that I did not receive that musical talent in heaven. It's all too confusing and overwhelming to me. All three of my older kids are fighting (literally) each other to have a chance at their turn on the piano. They are teaching themselves easy songs and are starving for lessons. Having a piano in the home is a great blessing. Thank goodness their father has some talent to pass on. I'm happy for you. Keep up the good work and tell Scott that he's a great husband for helping you keep your talents and hobbies.

You should post a video on here of you playing the keyboard.

That's awesome that Scott surprised you with that! And I agree...you should post a video of you playing. I keep saying that some day I'll take piano lessons. My kids will probably beat me to it though.

I can't believe Hannah is taking one half hour nap during the day. That is crazy! Allie was still taking two naps at her age and they were about an hour each. But of course she wasn't sleeping as long as Hannah is during the night. I wish we could be there for her first birthday! She is so precious!

What a nice hubby. That's great that you are able to play the piano. I'm on the same level as Hollie, it is a foreign language to me. It's funny you wrote about Fur Elise, that is what Kaden's piano homework is this week (the level 1 version of it). I was going to blog about it. Kaden's teacher downloads free music from gmajormusictheory.org.

Hannah is beautiful. We wish we could be there for her first birthday! Post lot's of pics.
